Description
What it is. 4,5-Dihydrothiophen-3(2H)-one is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a purity of 97 %, chemical formula C4H6OS (CAS 1003-04-9, FLAVIS number 15.012).
What it is for. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives and is used as a flavour in feed for all animal species. It is incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture, following common practice for synthetic flavouring substances.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 0.05 mg per kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture; if the premixture dose exceeds this threshold, labelling must state the functional group, identification number and amount added. Storage conditions and thermal stability must be indicated in the instructions for use, and personal protective equipment (skin, eyes, respiratory tract) is required during handling.
