Description
What it is. 4-Methylacetophenone is a flavouring substance (FLAVIS number 07.022, CAS 122-00-9) obtained by chemical synthesis, with a purity above 95 %, chemical formula C9H10O. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives.
What it is for. It is used as a flavour in feed for all animal species, incorporated in the form of a premixture. Like other flavouring substances, it is generally used to modulate the flavour of complete feed, without a nutritional function of its own.
Points to watch. The label must state a recommended maximum content of active substance per kilo of complete feed (12 % moisture): 0.05 mg for marine animals, 1 mg for cats, 5 mg for other species or categories. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be indicated in the instructions for use, and protective measures (skin, eyes, respiratory tract) are required during handling.
