Description
What it is. Amprolium hydrochloride (COXAM) is a synthetic coccidiostat additive. It is supplied as a composition containing amprolium hydrochloride, liquid paraffin and a rice husk-based carrier. The active substance is characterised by a purity above 97.5%.
What it is for. This additive is used to control coccidiosis in chickens for fattening and chickens reared for laying. It is incorporated into compound feed as a premixture, never added directly. Its use fits into parasite prevention programmes in poultry farming, at the levels set by the authorisation.
Points to watch. The additive must not be mixed with other coccidiostats. Storage conditions and stability under heat treatment are specified in the product's instructions for use. The authorisation holder carries out post-market monitoring of bacterial and Eimeria spp. resistance, and personal protective equipment (skin and respiratory protection) may be required depending on the risk assessment.
