Description
What it is. Benzyl salicylate is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 98 %, identified by CAS number 118-58-1 and FLAVIS number 09.752. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives.
What it is for. This additive is intended to be incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture, for all animal species. Like other flavouring substances, it is generally used for its organoleptic properties, without a specific nutritional function. The additive's label must state a recommended maximum content of active substance of 25 mg/kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture.
Points to watch. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use of the additive and premixtures. If the dose indicated on the premixture label would lead to exceeding the recommended maximum content, the label must state the functional group, identification number and quantity of active substance added. Personal protective equipment (respiratory, eye, skin) may be required if risks cannot be managed through operational procedures.
