Description

What it is. Buchu leaf essential oil, obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of Agathosma betulina (P.J. Bergius) Pillans. It is presented in liquid form and contains notably d,l-isomenthone, d-limonene, 2-hydroxypiperitone (diosphenol), p-menthan-3-one and pulegone, as well as methyleugenol (≤ 0.17 %).

What it is for. This essential oil is used as a sensory additive, a flavouring substance (functional group 2b), intended to impart an odour or taste note to feed. It is incorporated into feed in the form of a premix. Its use concerns all animal species except cats for this sheet, according to the authorisation register; it is generally used in very small amounts, typical of flavouring substances.

Points to watch. Mixing with other additives containing methyleugenol is not authorised. A recommended maximum content of active substance per kilo of complete feed (12 % moisture) is stated on the label depending on species: 0.1 mg for broiler chickens and other minor fattening poultry species, 0.15 mg for laying hens and other minor poultry species for laying/breeding, fattening turkeys and rabbits. Storage conditions and heat treatment stability must be specified in the instructions for use; the authorisation is valid until 12/09/2032.
