Description
What it is. White camphor essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the whole plant Cinnamomum camphora (L.) J. Presl. It is characterised by its content of 1,8-cineole, d-limonene, p-cymene and α-pinene, with controlled residual levels of camphor and safrole.
What it is for. This additive belongs to the functional group of flavouring compounds (2b) and is generally used for its organoleptic properties in feed. It must be incorporated as a premix. For cats, the target species on this sheet, the additive is authorised, with the label required to state the maximum recommended levels for the relevant animal categories.
Points to watch. Camphor is limited to 0.1% and safrole to 0.0002% in the additive's composition. Mixing with other additives containing camphor and safrole is not allowed. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be stated in the instructions for use; this essential oil is not authorised for cats according to the species register, although mentioned here as the sheet's target species — this point should be verified.
