Description
What it is. Phenylmethanethiol is a flavouring substance (functional group 2b, EU No 2b12005) obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 99 %, corresponding to CAS number 100-53-8 and FLAVIS number 12.005.
What it is for. This sensory additive is used in dog and cat feed for its flavouring role. It must be incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 0.05 mg/kg in complete feed with 12 % moisture content, above which the functional group, identification number, name and quantity must appear on the premixture label.
Points to watch. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use of the additive and premixtures. Due to risks of inhalation and skin or eye contact, organisational procedures and, where necessary, personal protective equipment (respiratory protection, safety glasses, gloves) are required during handling.
