Description
What it is. Ethyl salicylate is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis (CAS 118-61-6, EU FLAVIS 09.748), with a purity of at least 98% and the chemical formula C9H10O3.
What it is for. It belongs to functional group 2b, flavouring compounds, and is intended to be incorporated into feed in the form of a premix. It is generally used, as with other feed flavourings, to influence the sensory profile of compound feed. It is authorised for all animal species.
Points to watch. The product label must state a recommended maximum content of active substance of 5 mg per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture. If the premix dose leads to exceeding this level, the functional group, identification number, name and added quantity of the active substance must be indicated. Instructions for use must specify storage conditions and thermal stability; handling requires measures against inhalation and skin/eye contact, with personal protective equipment where risks cannot be reduced.
