Description
What it is. Pent-2-en-1-ol is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis (CAS 20273-24-9, FLAVIS 02.050), with a minimum purity of 95%, chemical formula C5H10O. It belongs to functional group 2b (flavouring compounds) in feed additive regulation.
What it is for. It is used as a sensory feed additive, incorporated via a premix, to provide an aromatic note in compound feed. It is authorised for all animal species. As a 2b flavouring substance, it is generally used in low amounts, in line with common practice for this type of additive.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum level of active substance is 5 mg per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture, as stated on the additive label. If the proposed premix dose would lead to exceeding this level, the label must state the functional group, identification number, name and quantity of active substance added. Storage conditions and thermal processing stability must be indicated on the label, and personal protective equipment (skin, eye, respiratory) may be required to manage inhalation or contact risks.
