beta-Damascenone

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. beta-Damascenone is a flavouring substance (sensory additive, functional group 2b) obtained by chemical synthesis, with chemical formula C13H18O (CAS number 23696-85-7, FLAVIS 07.108), with a minimum purity of 98%.

What it is for. It is intended to be incorporated into feedingstuffs in the form of a premixture, for all animal species, to provide a flavouring note. As with other group 2b substances, it is generally used in formulation to modulate the sensory profile of the complete feed.

Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 1.5 mg/kg of complete feed (12% moisture) for bovines for fattening, salmonids and non food-producing animals, and 1 mg/kg for other species or categories. The instructions for use must specify storage conditions and stability to heat treatment, and personal protective equipment (skin, eye, respiratory) is required where exposure risks exist. The authorisation is valid until 2 April 2033.
