Description
What it is. beta-Damascone is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with the chemical formula C13H20O (CAS number 23726-92-3, FLAVIS number 07.083). It is characterised by a minimum purity of 90 %.
What it is for. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavouring compounds) and is authorised for all animal species. It is incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture, with the instructions for use specifying storage conditions and stability to heat treatment.
Points to watch. The label must state a recommended maximum content of active substance per kilogram of complete feedingstuff with a moisture content of 12 %: 0.05 mg for animals reared in marine aquaculture systems, 5 mg for land-based aquaculture systems, and 5 mg for other species or categories. If the dose indicated on the premixture label would result in exceeding these contents, the label must state the functional group, identification number, name and quantity of active substance added.
