Non-2-enal

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Non-2-enal is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis (purity ≥ 92%, chemical formula C9H16O, CAS 2463-53-8, FLAVIS 05.171), belonging to functional group 2b of sensory additives.

What it is for. It is generally used as a flavouring for all animal species, incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. Its use follows the common applications of other flavouring substances in this group, intended to modulate the organoleptic characteristics of feed.

Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 5 mg/kg of complete feed at 12% moisture; if the premixture dose would exceed this level, the label must state the functional group, identification number and quantity of active substance added. Instructions for use must indicate storage conditions and stability to heat treatment, and personal protective equipment is required where risks of inhalation or skin/eye contact cannot be eliminated.
