Description
What it is. Trans-2-octenal is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a purity of ≥ 92 %, registered under FLAVIS number 05.190 and CAS number 2548-87-0 (formula C8H14O). It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavouring compounds).
What it is for. This additive is generally used for its flavouring properties in feed for all animal species. It is incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. Its instructions for use must specify storage conditions and stability under heat treatment.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 5 mg per kilogram of complete feed at 12 % moisture; exceeding this threshold via the premixture requires specific labelling (functional group, identification number, quantity added). Personal protective equipment (skin, eyes, respiratory tract) is required where exposure risks cannot be managed through operational procedures.
