Description
What it is. 3-Methyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis. Chemical formula C6H8O, CAS 2758-18-1, FLAVIS number 07.112, purity ≥ 98%.
What it is for. This additive belongs to functional group 2b, sensory additives, flavouring compounds subgroup. It is authorised for all animal species and is incorporated into feed via a premix. As a flavouring substance, it is generally used to influence feed organoleptic properties rather than to provide a nutritional effect.
Points to watch. The label must state the recommended maximum content of active substance per kg of complete feed (12% moisture): 0.05 mg for marine aquaculture animals, 0.5 mg for ruminants, non-food-producing animals and land-based aquaculture animals, 0.3 mg for other species or categories. If the premix label dose would exceed this content, the functional group, identification number, name and added quantity of the active substance must be indicated. Instructions for use must specify storage conditions and stability under heat treatment.
