Description
What it is. Valencene is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with the formula C15H24 (CAS number 4630-07-3, FLAVIS number 01.017). The additive has a minimum purity of 94%.
What it is for. It is used as a flavouring substance in feed for all animal species, incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. As with group 2b additives, its use aims to modulate the organoleptic characteristics of feed rather than to provide a nutritional effect.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 5 mg per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture; exceeding this level via the premixture requires specific labelling (functional group, identification number, quantity added). Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use, and personal protective measures (skin, eyes, respiratory tract) are required during handling.
