4-Terpinenol

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. 4-Terpinenol is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a monoterpene alcohol structure (C10H18O, CAS 562-74-3). It is identified under FLAVIS number 02.072 and must meet a minimum purity of 96%.

What it is for. It is used as a sensory feed additive, functional group 2b (flavouring compounds), for all animal species. It is incorporated into feed in premix form to confer or reinforce an aromatic note. As a flavouring compound, it would generally be used at low inclusion rates, mainly to support feed palatability.

Points to watch. The label must state a recommended maximum content of 5 mg of active substance per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture. Handlers must apply operational procedures to limit inhalation, skin and eye exposure, and personal protective equipment is required when these risks cannot be sufficiently reduced. Instructions for use must specify storage conditions and thermal processing stability.
