Description
What it is. Methyl 2-furoate is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis (CAS number 611-13-2, FLAVIS No 13.002), with chemical formula C6H6O3, assayed at a minimum of 98 %. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavourings) for animal feed.
What it is for. This additive is intended for all animal species and must be incorporated into feed via a flavouring premixture. As with any group 2b substance, it is generally used to impart or enhance a flavour note in the complete feed, without any specific nutritional function.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance in complete feed (12 % moisture) is 0.5 mg/kg; above this level, labelling must state the functional group, identification number, name and quantity added. Storage and stability conditions must be specified in the instructions for use, and personal protective measures (respiratory, eye, skin) are required during handling. Authorisation of this additive expires on 15 March 2028.
