Description
What it is. 5-Methylfurfural is a flavouring substance (sensory additive, functional group 2b) obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 97 %, corresponding to FLAVIS number 13.001 and CAS 620-02-0.
What it is for. It is used as a flavouring additive in feed for all animal species, incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. This type of substance is generally used to modulate the flavour of compound feed, without a nutritional function of its own.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 5 mg per kilogram of complete feed at 12 % moisture; exceeding this level via the premixture requires specific labelling (functional group, identification number, quantity added). Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use, and personal protective equipment may be required during handling.
