Description
What it is. Flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with the formula C4H8O2 (CAS number 79-31-2, FLAVIS number 08.006), with a minimum purity of 99 %. It is classified as a sensory additive in functional group 2b (flavouring compounds).
What it is for. Used as a flavouring in feed for all animal species, incorporated in the form of a premixture. Its use follows the common practice of flavouring substances in formulation, to modulate the palatability of complete feed.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 25 mg per kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture; exceeding this level via the premixture requires specific labelling (functional group, identification number, name and quantity added). The instructions for use must specify storage conditions and stability to heat treatment, and personal protective equipment is required against risks of inhalation and skin or eye contact.
