Description
What it is. Nonan-2-one is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 97% (CAS 821-55-6, chemical formula C9H18O). It is registered under FLAVIS number 07.020, in the functional group of flavouring compounds (2b).
What it is for. It is intended to be incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture, for all animal species, as a flavouring additive. As with other 2b aromatic substances, it is generally used to standardise or modulate the organoleptic profile of the feed. The recommended maximum content is 10 mg of active substance per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture, as stated on the additive label.
Points to watch. If the dose proposed on the premixture label leads to exceeding this recommended maximum content, the label must state the functional group, identification number and name of the active substance, together with the quantity added. Storage conditions and stability under heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use. Given the potential risks, operators must implement operational procedures and, where necessary, provide personal protective equipment (respiratory, eye, skin) for users.
