Description
What it is. Isopentyl salicylate is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a chemical purity of at least 98% (CAS 87-20-7, FLAVIS 09.751).
What it is for. It belongs to functional group 2b, flavouring compounds, and is intended to be incorporated into feed via a premix. As a sensory additive it is generally used to influence feed palatability and aroma, like other substances in this group. It is authorised for all animal species, with no species- or stage-specific restriction mentioned.
Points to watch. The label must state a recommended maximum content of 5 mg of active substance per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture. Storage conditions and thermal stability must be specified in the instructions for use of the additive and premixes, and if premix dosing would exceed this level, additional labelling information is required. Operators must implement procedures to manage handling risks, including personal protective equipment where needed.
