Description
What it is. Liquid essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the fruits (seeds) of Apium graveolens L., followed by condensation and separation of the aqueous phase. Characteristic composition based on d-limonene, β-selinene and senkyunolide A, with furocoumarins present as traces.
What it is for. Sensory additive of functional group 2b (flavouring substance), used for its flavouring properties in compound feed. Authorised for a wide range of species: poultry (fattening, laying, breeding, ornamental), pigs (all stages), cattle, sheep, goats, other ruminants, Camelidae, equidae, Leporidae, fish and dogs. The additive must be incorporated in the form of a premixture.
Points to watch. The maximum level indicated for turkeys for fattening is 2.1 (unit per annex). The specifications set strict ranges for constituents (d-limonene 35-79%, β-selinene 5-20%, senkyunolide A 1.5-22%, β-pinene 0.3-2%) and very low thresholds for perillaldehyde and furocoumarins (bergapten, psoralen, xanthotoxin, isopimpinellin, isoimperatorin), reflecting a strict purity requirement and controlled batch variability.
