Description
What it is. Tincture obtained from the dried flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum (clove) by intensive water/ethanol extraction, pressing and filtration. Liquid product characterised notably by its eugenol content, used as a phytochemical marker, together with total polyphenols and flavonoids.
What it is for. Sensory additive in functional group 2b (flavouring compound), authorised for all animal species except equidae. This type of tincture is generally used for its aromatic properties in complete or complementary feed, with no claimed nutritional function. Use is at the formulator's discretion depending on the desired palatability.
Points to watch. The composition sets maximum contents for total polyphenols, flavonoids, eugenol, eugenyl acetate, methyleugenol and estragole; these values must be respected as specified in the regulatory annex. Product not authorised for equidae. Natural variability of the plant extract requires checking dry matter and phytochemical markers on receipt.
