Description
What it is. Endo-1,4-beta-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.4, 1k105) is an enzyme preparation produced by fermentation of Aspergillus niger CBS 120604. It is supplied as a solid with a minimum activity of 25,650 DNS units per gram of additive.
What it is for. It belongs to the functional group of additives for silage (technological additives) and is authorised for all animal species. It acts on plant cell-wall structures (hydrolysis of beta-glucan bonds), which is generally the mechanism used to support the fermentation process during silage making. When not combined with other enzymes or micro-organisms used as silage additives, a minimum content of 3 DNS per kg of fresh matter applies.
Points to watch. Storage conditions for the additive and premixtures must be stated in the instructions for use. Operators must implement operational procedures and organisational measures to manage handling risks, and personal protective equipment (skin, eye and respiratory protection) is required where these risks cannot otherwise be controlled. A related study on an endo-1,4-beta-mannanase from a different micro-organism (Natupulse TS/TS L) illustrates enzyme use in poultry diets but does not set usage levels for this product.
