Description
What it is. Essential oil extracted from Origanum vulgare L. subsp. hirtum (Vulkan variety). Its characteristic composition combines carvacrol, thymol, γ-terpinene, p-cymene and other terpenic compounds in proportions defined by the regulatory annex.
What it is for. This essential oil is used as a flavouring substance (functional group 2b) in feed for all animal species. It is generally employed for its organoleptic properties, providing a characteristic oregano aromatic note to compound feed or premixtures.
Points to watch. Dosage must comply with the constituent levels set out in the regulatory annex (notably the carvacrol marker), quantified by GC-MS/GC-FID. As a flavouring substance, the natural variability of the essential oil requires regular analytical control; authorisation is valid until 12/05/2031.
