L-lysine base, liquid. L-lysine (3c320)

Additive Nutritional additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Nutritional additive belonging to the functional group of amino acids (3c320). It is an aqueous solution of L-lysine, obtained by fermentation using Corynebacterium glutamicum, with a minimum L-lysine content of 50 %.

What it is for. Used to cover lysine requirements, an essential amino acid that is often limiting, in feed for all animal species. It allows formulation to be adjusted for digestible lysine without relying on excess protein raw materials, and can also be administered via drinking water. Its use fits within a digestible amino acid formulation approach, particularly to balance the protein profile of compound feed.

Points to watch. The lysine content must be declared on the additive label. When supplementing, particularly via drinking water, other essential and conditionally essential amino acids should be taken into account to avoid imbalances. Personal protective measures (skin, eyes, respiratory tract) are required during handling if inhalation or contact risks cannot be reduced through organisational procedures.
