Description
What it is. Essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the fruits of Litsea cubeba (Lour.) Pers., in liquid form. It is characterised by its content of geranial (36-45%), neral (25-35%), limonene (9-15%), geraniol (1-4%) and linalool (0.4-3%).
What it is for. This flavouring substance (functional group 2b) is generally used for its organoleptic properties in compound feed, incorporated as a premixture. It is authorised for a wide range of species: poultry, pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, horses, rabbits, salmonids, dogs, cats and ornamental fish. The specific use depends on feed formulation and technological context.
Points to watch. The additive must be incorporated as a premixture; instructions for use must specify storage conditions and stability to heat treatment. The label must indicate a recommended maximum content of active substance per kilo of complete feed at 12% moisture, namely 11 mg for chickens for fattening and 16 mg for laying hens.
