Description
What it is. By-product obtained after further aqueous extraction of sucrose and/or betaine from sugar beet molasses. It may contain up to 2% sulphates and up to 0.25% sulphites.
What it is for. This type of product is generally used as a source of energy and residual sugars in compound feed, partially replacing standard molasses. It is generally valued for its binding and palatability properties during pelleting. Its use mainly concerns ruminants and may extend to other species depending on the formulation.
Points to watch. Total sugar content, expressed as sucrose, must be declared, as well as water content if it exceeds 28%. The presence of sulphates (up to 2%) and sulphites (up to 0.25%) requires attention in formulation, particularly for sensitive species. Composition may vary depending on the degree of sucrose and/or betaine extraction.
