Description
What it is. Tincture obtained by thorough extraction of the fragmented aerial parts of Artemisia vulgaris L. (mugwort) using a water/ethanol mixture. It is supplied in liquid form and is characterised in particular by its dry matter content (1.4–1.9 %), total polyphenols (0.05–0.2 %) and phenolic acids (0.02–0.11 %), with α- and β-thujone content below 0.005 %.
What it is for. This additive belongs to the flavouring compounds functional group (2b) and is authorised for all animal species. Flavouring substances of this type are generally used for their organoleptic contribution to compound feed, without any claimed nutritional function. Their use reflects common sensory practice rather than a demonstrated functional contribution.
Points to watch. The α- and β-thujone content, compounds whose toxicity at high doses is documented, is limited to below 0.005 % in the additive specification. The tincture's composition (dry matter, ash, organic fraction) shows natural variability linked to botanical origin and extraction process. Authorisation of this additive is valid until 30 March 2031.
