Narasin 100 g/kg (Monteban – Monteban G 100)

Additive Additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Narasin (E 765, Monteban / Monteban G 100, 100 g/kg) is a synthetic coccidiostat additive, a polyether ionophore, obtained by fermentation. It is supplied as a premix dosed at 100 g/kg of active substance.

What it is for. It is used in chicken feed for the prevention of coccidiosis, an intestinal parasitic disease affecting zootechnical performance. Its use fits within digestive health programmes in poultry farming, in rotation or alternation with other coccidiostats to limit resistance development. It is incorporated into the complete feed according to the conditions set by the authorisation.

Points to watch. The authorisation specifically targets chickens for fattening; any use outside this species or outside the authorisation conditions is not compliant. As with other ionophores, interactions with certain molecules (notably antibiotics) and sensitivity of certain non-target species must be considered during feed manufacturing and transport.
