Naringin / (2S)-4H-1-Benzopyran-4-one,7-((2-O-(6- deoxy-alpha-L-mannopyranosyl)-beta-D- glucopyranosyl) oxy)-2,3-dihydro-5- hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Naringin is a flavonoid glycoside extracted from citrus fruit, with a purity of at least 90%. It is identified under CAS number 10236-47-2 and FLAVIS number 16.058, and quantified in the additive by HPLC with UV detection.

What it is for. It belongs to the sensory additives category, functional group 2b (flavouring compounds), and is authorised for all animal species. It is incorporated into feed in the form of a premix, intended to impart a flavouring note to the diet. As with other flavouring substances, its use is generally guided by the targeted sensory effect rather than a nutritional function.

Points to watch. The label must state a recommended maximum content of 5 mg of active substance per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture. If the dose used in the premix would lead to this level being exceeded, the premix label must indicate the functional group, identification number, name of the active substance and the quantity added. Storage conditions and heat stability must be specified in the instructions for use, and personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection, may be required when handling the additive.
