Description
What it is. Octan-2-one is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with chemical formula C8H16O (CAS number 111-13-7, FLAVIS number 07.019). Its minimum purity is 95 %.
What it is for. This additive belongs to the flavouring compounds functional group (2b) and is incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. It is authorised for all animal species. This type of compound is generally used for its organoleptic properties, without a nutritional function of its own.
Points to watch. The additive label must state a recommended maximum content of active substance of 10 mg per kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use. Personal protective equipment (respiratory, eye, skin) is required if risks from use cannot otherwise be managed.
