Description
What it is. Octan-3-one is a flavouring substance (sensory additive, functional group 2b) obtained by chemical synthesis, with the chemical formula C8H16O and a minimum purity of 98 %. It is identified by FLAVIS number 07.062 and CAS number 106-68-3.
What it is for. This additive is intended to be incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture, for all animal species. Like other group 2b flavouring substances, it would generally be used for its organoleptic properties, to modulate the odour or flavour of the complete feed.
Points to watch. The additive label must state a recommended maximum content of 10 mg of active substance per kilogram of complete feed with a moisture content of 12 %; if the dose used on the premixture label would lead to exceeding this level, the premixture label must state the functional group, identification number, name and quantity of active substance added. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be stated in the instructions for use, and personal protective equipment (respiratory, eye, skin) is required where risks related to handling cannot be managed through organisational procedures.
