Description
What it is. Essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the aerial parts of Origanum majorana L. (Majorana hortensis Moench.). It is a flavouring substance of botanical origin, with a composition characteristic of marjoram essential oils.
What it is for. It is used as a sensory additive in feed, intended to influence the flavour and aroma of the finished feed. This type of aromatic substance is generally used in small amounts to support feed palatability and intake, in species and at stages for which flavouring additives are authorised.
Points to watch. As a flavouring substance (functional group 2b), it must comply with the maximum authorised levels and use conditions set by the regulatory annex, which take precedence over any other value. Being a natural essential oil, its composition may vary according to origin, harvest and extraction process; storage conditions should preserve its aromatic stability.
