Description
What it is. Pentyl isovalerate is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with 98 % purity, listed under FLAVIS number 09.499 and CAS number 25415-62-7. Its chemical formula is C10H20O2.
What it is for. This additive belongs to functional group 2b (flavouring compounds) and is authorised for all animal species. It is generally used for its flavouring effect, to guide or standardise the organoleptic profile of compound feed. It must be incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 1 mg/kg of complete feed (12 % moisture) for pigs and poultry, and 1.5 mg/kg for other species or categories. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use of the additive and premixtures; personal protective measures against inhalation and skin or eye contact are required when handling it.
