Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of Citrus aurantium L. (petitgrain bigarade). It is presented in liquid form and is characterised by its phytochemical markers (linalyl acetate, linalool, α-terpineol, d-limonene, geranyl acetate, geraniol).

What it is for. This essential oil is used as a sensory additive, flavouring compound (functional group 2b), in complete feed for numerous species: poultry, pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, horses, rabbits, fish, dogs, cats. It is generally used for its flavouring properties, supplied via a premixture. The additive must be incorporated in the form of a premixture, never directly.

Points to watch. A recommended maximum content of active substance is set for chickens for fattening (10 mg/kg complete feed at 12% moisture) and laying hens (14 mg/kg). The instructions for use must specify storage conditions and stability to heat treatment, given the volatile nature of the substance.
