Description
What it is. Enzyme preparation combining endo-1,3(4)-beta-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.6) and endo-1,4-beta-xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8), produced by fermentation of Talaromyces versatilis (IMI CC 378536). Available in solid form (30 000 U/g glucanase and 22 000 U/g xylanase) or liquid form (7 500 U/ml glucanase and 5 500 U/ml xylanase).
What it is for. Classified as a zootechnical additive, functional group 4a (digestibility enhancer). Used in feed for all poultry species, weaned piglets, fattening pigs and sows to break down non-starch polysaccharides (beta-glucans, arabinoxylans) in the diet, improving nutrient availability. In sows, use is intended from one week before farrowing through the lactation period. The minimum recommended dose in compound feed is 1 500 U of glucanase and 1 100 U of xylanase per kg.
Points to watch. Storage conditions and heat-treatment stability must be specified on the additive and premix instructions. During handling, eye protection (solid form only), respiratory protection and skin protection are required unless risks can be managed by other operational measures. Authorisation for this additive expires on 7 August 2035.
