Description
What it is. Tetradecano-1,5-lactone is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 97%. It is identified under CAS 2721-22-4 and FLAVIS number 10.016.
What it is for. This additive is generally used as a flavouring agent in feed, intended to influence the organoleptic properties of feedingstuffs. It is authorised for all animal species and is incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 5 mg per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture. If a premixture dose leads to exceeding this level, the label must state the functional group, identification number, name and quantity of active substance added. Storage conditions and thermal stability must be specified in the instructions for use, and operators must put in place procedures to manage risks linked to handling, including personal protective equipment where necessary.
