Description
What it is. Extracted meal obtained from pressed rapeseed meal, subsequently subjected to an appropriate heat treatment. It is an oil mill co-product, rich in vegetable protein.
What it is for. It is generally used as a source of vegetable protein in compound feed for farm animals, particularly ruminants, pigs and poultry. The heat treatment helps reduce certain antinutritional factors specific to rapeseed and stabilises the product. Its use fits into the formulation of nitrogen-balanced rations, as a partial substitute for other protein sources.
Points to watch. Crude protein content must be declared. As with other rapeseed-based products, attention is recommended regarding residual antinutritional factors (notably glucosinolates), whose level may vary depending on the extraction process and heat treatment applied. Storage should limit moisture uptake and oxidation.
