Description
What it is. Oilseed meal obtained by pressing sesame seeds (Sesamum indicum) to extract oil. It is a press cake rich in protein and residual fat, with a defined limit on acid-insoluble ash (maximum 5%).
What it is for. It is generally used as a protein source in compound feeds, mainly for ruminants, poultry and some monogastrics. Its protein, crude fibre and crude fat content should be checked against the declared values before formulation. It can contribute to the fat content of the diet given its residual oil level.
Points to watch. Acid-insoluble ash must not exceed 5%. Protein, crude fibre and crude fat content can vary with the pressing process and seed origin; these should be verified by analysis. Store in a dry place protected from heat and moisture to limit fat oxidation.
