Description
What it is. Tridecan-2-one is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 95 %, chemical formula C13H26O (CAS number 593-08-8, FLAVIS number 07.103). It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavouring compounds).
What it is for. This additive is generally used for flavouring complete feed for all animal species. It is incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. The additive's label must state a recommended maximum content of active substance of 10 mg per kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture content.
Points to watch. If the dose proposed on the premixture label would result in exceeding this recommended content, the label must indicate the functional group, identification number, name and quantity of active substance added. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use. Personal protective equipment (respiratory, eye and skin protection) is required during handling where risks cannot otherwise be managed.
