Description
What it is. Vanillin is an aromatic substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 97% (formula C8H8O3, CAS 121-33-5). It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavouring compounds, FLAVIS number 05.018).
What it is for. It is used to provide a flavour note in complete feed or premixtures, across all animal species. The additive is incorporated in the form of a premixture. The label must state the recommended maximum content of active substance of 125 mg per kg of complete feed (12% moisture).
Points to watch. If the premixture dose would result in exceeding this recommended content, the label must indicate the functional group, identification number and quantity of active substance added. Storage conditions and stability under thermal processing must be stated in the instructions for use. Personal protective equipment (respiratory, eye, skin) is required when risks from handling cannot otherwise be eliminated.
