Description
What it is. Essential oil obtained by steam distillation of dried rhizomes of Zingiber officinale Roscoe. It is characterised by its content of α-zingiberene (29–40%), β-sesquiphellandrene (8–14%), ar-curcumene (5–12%), α-farnesene (4–10%), camphene (2–10%) and β-bisabolene (2–9%), in liquid form.
What it is for. This essential oil belongs to the functional group of flavouring compounds (2b) and may be used in all animal species. It would generally be used for its flavouring properties, to modulate feed palatability. The additive must be incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture.
Points to watch. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be specified in the instructions for use of the additive and premixtures. The chemical composition of this natural essential oil is subject to batch variability and must remain within the defined ranges for the main markers.
