Allylthiol

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Allylthiol is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis (CAS 870-23-5, FLAVIS 12.004, formula C3H6S). The additive is characterised by a minimum purity of 75%, with allylthiol plus allyl sulfide and allyl mercaptan reaching at least 98%.

What it is for. It belongs to functional group 2b (flavouring compounds) and is authorised for all animal species. It is incorporated into feed via a premix and is generally used, like other sensory additives, to influence feed flavour and palatability.

Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 0.05 mg/kg in complete feed at 12% moisture; above this level the functional group, identification number, name and quantity added must be declared on the label. The product label must state storage and stability conditions, and operators must implement measures against skin or eye contact, including protective glasses and gloves when risk cannot otherwise be minimised.
