Description
What it is. Benzaldehyde is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis (CAS 100-52-7, FLAVIS number 05.013), with a minimum purity of 98 %, formula C7H6O. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavouring compounds).
What it is for. It is used as a flavouring additive in feed for all animal species, incorporated in the form of a premixture into compound feed. Its use is intended to impart or reinforce an aromatic note in the diet.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 25 mg/kg for complete feed with 12 % moisture content; above this, labelling of premixtures, feed materials and compound feed must state the functional group, identification number, name and quantity added. Instructions for use must specify storage and stability conditions, and protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves) is required where skin or eye contact risk cannot be excluded.
