Caséinate

Feed material Milk products and derivatives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Dairy-derived product obtained from curd or casein by treatment with neutralising agents, followed by drying. Listed under feed materials catalogue entry 8.4.1 (Milk products).

What it is for. Used as a protein source in feed formulation, mainly valued for its protein brute content. It is generally used in diets for young animals and specialty feeds where a highly digestible milk protein source is sought, given its dairy origin. Suited to applications where a purified, dried protein fraction is required rather than whole milk products.

Points to watch. Crude protein content and moisture content (if above 10%) must be declared. As a dairy-derived ingredient, composition can vary depending on the source material and extraction process; store under dry conditions to limit moisture pickup.
