Description

What it is. Collagen is a protein-based product derived from the bones, hides, skins and tendons of terrestrial animals. It is obtained through processing of these animal by-products, yielding a material characterized mainly by its crude protein fraction.

What it is for. This type of product is generally used as a protein source in feed formulation, contributing to the crude protein content of diets. It may also serve technological functions related to its proteinaceous and gelling nature, depending on the processing degree. Use is generally considered across various species and production stages where a protein-rich animal-derived ingredient is suitable.

Points to watch. Crude protein and, where moisture exceeds 8%, water content must be declared. As an animal by-product, compliance with applicable rules on animal-derived materials and traceability requirements must be verified, along with attention to batch-to-batch compositional variability.
