Gélatine

Feed material Land animal products Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Gelatin is a natural, soluble protein, gelling or non-gelling, obtained by partial hydrolysis of collagen derived from bones, hides and skins, tendons and sinews of animals.

What it is for. As an animal protein, it generally serves as a protein source and binder in feed formulation. It would typically be used in diets or feed technologies where its gelling and binding properties are of interest, without any specific species or life stage being indicated in the available information.

Points to watch. Crude protein content must be declared, and moisture content as well when it exceeds 8%. As with other animal by-products, attention should be paid to raw material variability and to applicable regulatory restrictions on animal proteins in feed.
