Description
What it is. α-Hexylcinnamaldehyde is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a purity of 95 % (formula C15H20O, CAS 101-86-0, FLAVIS 05.041). It belongs to the functional group 2b of sensory additives.
What it is for. This additive is intended to confer or reinforce an aromatic note in feed for all animal species. It must be incorporated as a premixture. Its use relates to palatability or olfactory characterisation of the final product rather than to nutritional supply.
Points to watch. The label must state the recommended maximum content of active substance per kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture: 0.05 mg for marine aquaculture animals, 1 mg/kg for cats, 5 mg/kg for dogs and terrestrial aquaculture animals, 0.1 mg for other terrestrial species or categories. The instructions for use must specify storage conditions and stability to heat treatment. The EU authorisation runs until 22/09/2032.
