Isoeugenol

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Isoeugenol is an aromatic substance obtained by chemical synthesis (CAS number 97-54-1, FLAVIS number 04.004), with a minimum purity of 99 %. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavouring compounds).

What it is for. This additive is intended for flavouring feed for pigs, ruminants and horses (excluding those producing milk for human consumption) and companion animals, across all species per the EU register. It is incorporated into feed as a premixture. As with other flavouring substances, it aims to modulate palatability or feed acceptance.

Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 5 mg/kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture; above this threshold, labelling must state the functional group, identification number, name and quantity added. Storage and stability conditions must be specified in the instructions for use, and personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves) is required in case of skin or eye contact.
